Silver Prices Teeter Ahead of Inflation Report Amid Supply Deficit and Macro Uncertainty
The silver market is at a crossroads as traders weigh a strong fundamental narrative against macro headwinds. Spot silver prices are hovering near $65 an ounce, having pulled back some of Tuesday's gains ahead of the July consumer price index release.
The inflation report is expected to show headline CPI at 3.4 percent year over year and core reading at 2.5 percent. These figures carry significant weight in shaping Fed policy expectations, which have been inconsistent lately.
Despite a hawkish tone from several FOMC members and three regional presidents dissenting from the decision to hold rates steady, the market remains uncertain about the next move. A hot inflation print could harden the case for a September rate hike, while a softer reading might weaken the dollar and boost silver prices.
However, beneath the noise, the fundamental picture is tight. The World Silver Survey projects a sixth consecutive annual deficit in 2026, with the supply-demand gap widening to 46.3 million ounces from 40.3 million ounces last year, a roughly 15 percent increase.
