Greenfire Resources' Acquisition of Connacher Doubles Production Scale
Greenfire Resources Ltd (TSX:GFR) has made significant strides in its growth trajectory. The Calgary-based oil sands producer effectively doubled its scale through a single transaction, acquiring Connacher Oil and Gas Limited for approximately C$1.3 billion in early August 2026. This deal pushed Greenfire's combined production toward the 34,000 barrel-per-day range.
The acquisition was financed in part through a large rights offering, which raised around C$775 million. Waterous Energy Fund, the majority owner with a 72% stake, played a crucial role in this transaction. The company's shares trade on both the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker GFR.
The dominant story for Greenfire in 2026 has been its acquisition of Connacher Oil and Gas Limited. This deal expands Greenfire's production base, with reported guidance pointing toward combined output approaching 34,000 barrels per day, roughly double the company's pre-acquisition scale.
