Grupo México Copper Profit Soars on Operating Leverage

Grupo México's profit has skyrocketed by 90.9% in Q2 2026 due to exceptional operating leverage driven by a 30.5% increase in copper prices and a 56.7% collapse in unit production costs.

The company, which accounts for approximately 78% of Mexico's total copper production, has seen its earnings multiply at an extraordinary rate this year. The result is a net profit of $2.093 billion, exceeding analyst consensus by $427 million.

Grupo México's dominance in the global copper market and its strategic position in key mining jurisdictions have contributed to its impressive performance. Its by-product portfolio also provides natural hedging when copper prices experience short-term weakness.

Investors are closely watching Mexico's emerging role as a global copper supply node, with at least eight new copper and polymetallic projects advancing across the country, representing a combined investment value of $5.161 billion.
