Guilfoyle Accused of Promoting Greek Company's US LNG Deals
The US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has been accused of promoting American liquefied natural gas (LNG) through a specific Greek company, Aktor, in Bulgaria.
According to an investigation by The Wall Street Journal, Guilfoyle met with Bulgarian officials and directed them towards Aktor as a potential partner for purchasing US LNG. As a result, the Greek company signed agreements with Bulgarian gas companies, including a $6 billion agreement that would supply gas to Albania through 2050.
The US administration has been trying to persuade allies on Europe's eastern flank to buy American natural gas, reducing their dependence on Russian energy. However, former State Department officials have expressed concerns about the arrangement, saying it is 'absolutely problematic' for an American ambassador to promote a foreign company.
