Commodities trader Gunvor is in talks to buy U.S. natural gas-producing assets from private energy firm Silver Hill Energy Partners for over $1 billion. The deal would be part of Gunvor's efforts to build an integrated shale gas production and marketing business, a strategic pivot under new CEO Gary Pedersen.

The potential acquisition of Silver Hill assets, spread across the Haynesville shale basin in Texas and Louisiana, has been estimated to cost between $1.2 billion and $1.5 billion. The purchase price is still under consideration, according to sources.

Gunvor has already provided capital to support Western Natural's approximately $300 million purchase of Haynesville gas-producing assets earlier this year, and the company has been expanding its interests in U.S. natural gas production and exports. This includes a long-term LNG offtake deal with Delfin Midstream in May.
