Guyana Oil Revenues Come Under Scrutiny Amid Price Discrepancy
The Bank of Guyana (BoG) has reported that the average price received for Guyana's oil during the first six months of 2026 was US$92.50 per barrel, according to its First Half Report.
This figure contrasts with current Brent crude prices, which have been around US$105 and US$150 per barrel in recent weeks.
The discrepancy between the reported price and current market prices raises questions about the BoG's projection that the average oil price for the entire year will be only US$86 per barrel.
A calculation of the royalty payments received by the government from oil production during the first half of 2026 shows a potential difference of approximately US$604 million, based on an average oil production of around 163 million barrels and an average price of US$92.50 per barrel.
