Guyana Oilfield Investment Recouped Ahead of Schedule by ExxonMobil
ExxonMobil's joint venture in Guyana has recovered its initial investment costs of $55 billion, two years ahead of schedule. The investment was made to develop the country's Stabroek Block oilfield, which is estimated to hold at least 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
The block has become one of ExxonMobil's top assets since its discovery in 2015. Revenue from the field has contributed significantly to Guyana's economy, making it one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with over 900,000 barrels per day production.
Under the production sharing contract (PSC) between ExxonMobil and Guyana, the consortium splits profit oil evenly with the country after recovering costs. The recouped investment will now increase free cash flow for ExxonMobil to twice the level seen in 2025 by 2030.
