Guyana's Hammerhead to Fuel Operations, Power Plants, and Oil Production
ExxonMobil's Hammerhead development in Guyana is expected to start producing oil by 2029, with an initial capacity of around 150,000 barrels per day.
The associated gas from this project will have multiple uses. Firstly, it will be used to fuel the operations at Hammerhead itself. Any remaining gas can then be directed through a 13-kilometer offshore export pipeline to shore or transferred to other infrastructure.
The pipeline connection is key here. ExxonMobil's Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) shows that this pipeline will link Hammerhead to the Gas-to-Energy (GtE) pipeline, allowing gas from the project to enter a wider gas transportation system. This includes a pipeline isolation valve module with multiple valves and subsea controls linking the Hammerhead export line to the GtE pipeline.
The EIA also notes that geotechnical and geophysical studies are being conducted to assess the seabed conditions along the route, while a probabilistic seismic hazard assessment has been done to evaluate seismic risk. The design of the pipeline will account for stresses caused by movement and temperature changes, as well as potential buckling, fatigue, and vibration.
