Guyana's Oil Boom Drives Tanker Demand Across Americas
Guyana's rapidly growing oil production is driving demand for tankers across the Americas. According to International Seaways CEO Lois Zabrocky, the trend is part of a broader increase in Western Hemisphere crude supply from Guyana, the United States, Brazil, and Argentina.
Guyana has surpassed 900,000 barrels per day since production began at the Stabroek Block, with further increases expected as additional projects come online. This growth is contributing to longer trade routes between producers in the Western Hemisphere and consumers in Asia, requiring more tanker capacity.
International Seaways is positioning for this regional demand by ordering four long-range 1 tankers for delivery in the second half of 2028. The company has a strong customer base in the Americas and sees this niche trade as reliable.
