Harvest Delays Spark Price Rally in Soybean and Grain Futures
Soybean and grain futures rose overnight due to concerns over harvest delays caused by heavy rainfall in major production areas of the US Corn Belt.
Around 17% of the soybean crop was harvested at the start of the week, matching the prior five-year average. However, Iowa's harvest lagged behind with only 3% completion, significantly lower than its 17% average for this time of year.
The situation is similar in corn production, with 18% of US corn harvested, also on par with the average. In contrast, Illinois' corn harvest was more advanced, but still below the five-year average at 26% completion.
Rainfall from Hurricane Polo is expected to cause flooding and slow down harvesting efforts. Prices may rise as investors adjust their positions ahead of the quarterly grain stocks report due today in Washington.
