Harvest Midstream Tackles Alaska Gas Supply Shortages with North Slope LNG Facility and Nikiski Import Project

Harvest Midstream is taking steps to address potential gas supply shortages in Southcentral Alaska. The company, an affiliate of Hilcorp Alaska, has been working on several projects to bolster natural gas supplies in the region.

The North Slope LNG facility, which Harvest constructed near Deadhorse, has begun commercial deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Fairbanks-based Interior Gas Utility (IGU). This is the first commercial delivery of North Slope gas, and it's expected to result in a significant improvement in air quality through reduced emissions.

The LNG facility has the capacity to meet additional utility, industrial, and community demand as requirements grow. Harvest also continues to advance the planned conversion of the existing LNG export facility at Nikiski on the Kenai Peninsula into an LNG import facility.

Harvest says that repurposing the Nikiski facility provides the most practical and cost-effective means of bringing additional gas supplies to the Alaska Railbelt region within the required timeframe. The company is working towards a final investment decision for the project, which would enable the importing of LNG as early as 2029.

According to Harvest CEO Jason C. Rebrook, 'We focus on practical projects that solve real energy challenges, and then we execute.' This approach has guided their work at Kenai LNG as they look to put existing infrastructure back to work for Alaskans.
