Havana's Manufactured Gas Service Disrupted by Insufficient Supply
Havana is experiencing disruptions in manufactured gas service due to insufficient natural gas supply, reported the Manufactured Gas Company.
The company announced that partial and total outages are occurring, initially attributing them to 'unpostponable' maintenance work at the Energas plant in Puerto Escondido. However, they later updated their statement, stating that restoration of service will depend on an improvement in supply conditions.
Residents have criticized the company for not providing timely information about the outage, leaving households without a primary cooking option during prolonged blackouts. Manufactured gas is essential for those who cannot rely on electricity to cook.
The recent interruption marks one of several significant breakdowns in the capital's network over the past four months, including maintenance work, technical incidents, and valve calibration issues.
