HD HHI Wins Approval for 271K Twin Skeg LNG Carrier

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) has secured approval from DNV for its largest LNG carrier design to date, a vessel capable of carrying 271,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas. The 271K Twin Skeg LNG carrier combines high cargo capacity with operational efficiency and flexibility.

The new design features five membrane-type cargo tanks and is intended to provide greater flexibility than conventional LNG carriers. Despite its increased capacity, the vessel remains capable of transiting both the Suez and Panama canals, giving owners and operators wider deployment options.

According to Hong Ryeul Ryu, senior executive vice president and chief technology officer at HD HHI, 'Through our newly unveiled 271K LNG carrier design, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in large-scale energy transport.'
