Healey Asks Trump to Speed Up Review of RARE Pipeline Expansion Project
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has asked the Trump administration to expedite the review of a natural gas pipeline expansion project in New England. The Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement (RARE) project, developed by Enbridge's unit, aims to provide gas supply to 600,000 customers and lower their bills by $40 million each year.
The project will expand capacity by around 75 million cubic feet per day on the Algonquin Gas Transmission pipeline, which transports approximately 3.1 billion cubic feet of gas through 1,131 miles of pipe in New Jersey, New York, and New England.
Healey called for expedited federal review, citing President Donald Trump's previous support for the project. She emphasized that an all-of-the-above approach is needed to bring more energy supply into Massachusetts, including solar, wind, storage, nuclear, geothermal, hydro, and gas.
