Heat Wave Affects Meridian Farmers and Produce Prices

Meridian farmers are facing challenges due to persistent heat conditions, which are affecting produce and prices. According to Randy Mathis of Mathis Peaches and Produce, drought conditions make it harder for crops to grow, leading to increased demand and prices.

'I've never seen tomatoes, corn, snap beans this time of year be the prices that we're seeing now,' said Mathis.

While some crops benefit from sunlight and dryness, others struggle with excessive heat. Mathis mentioned that newly planted plum trees are struggling to cope with the conditions, highlighting both positive and negative effects.
