Hindustan Copper Aims to Triple Ore Production Under Ambitious Expansion Plan
Hindustan Copper is an Indian public sector undertaking that mines copper ore. The company has a specific corporate plan called Vision 2030, which aims to triple its ore production from 3.67 million tonnes in FY26 to 12.20 million tonnes by FY30.
The expansion plan involves four sets of assets at different stages of development, including the Malanjkhand mine, which will be taken from 2.5 MTPA to 5.0 MTPA, and the Gujarat Copper Project, which is expected to start producing in the fourth quarter of FY27.
The company has already shown impressive results, with its revenue rising 81% and profit 163% in the June 2026 quarter. However, the copper price is a significant risk factor, and every $100 rise in the price is worth roughly Rs.20 crore to Rs.25 crore of profit.
Hindustan Copper's management has been open about the sensitivity of the company's earnings to copper prices, which could impact its expansion plans. The company's shares have rallied 107% in the past year and are currently trading at Rs.515, but the valuation is still below its 52-week high levels of Rs.760 seen in January 2026.
