Hindustan Copper Sees Production Rise as Joint Venture Talks Advance
Hindustan Copper Limited expects copper ore and metal in concentrate production to rise by 28% and 17%, respectively, this fiscal year. According to its CMD Anupam Misra, work is underway on a joint-venture with CODELCO for four shortlisted copper blocks in Chile.
Misra stated that the transaction advisor will submit a report on the total reserves in these four blocks to Hindustan Copper within two to three months. The formation of a joint-venture company with CODELCO is still in progress, as multiple stakeholders from both countries need to be involved and proper legal structures created.
Hindustan Copper's revenue from operations grew 81% year-on-year during Q1FY27 due to increased copper ore production, higher metal-in-ore quality, and rising LME copper prices. The company is targeting a 28% increase in copper ore production and a 17% rise in metal in concentrate production this fiscal year.
Misra emphasized the importance of India's mineral resources for national security, energy security, and industrial growth. He welcomed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, as it aims to create a predictable, uniform, and rational fiscal framework for the mining sector.
