HK Gold Imports Soar to 11-Year High Amid Strong Investor Appetite
Hong Kong's gold imports have reached an 11-year high, with 150.48 tonnes imported in June. This represents a nearly 29% month-on-month surge and marks the highest monthly volume since late 2014.
The strong demand is attributed to renewed investor appetite for gold following a recent correction. Additionally, a stronger yuan makes gold prices appear more attractive, according to Prashant Bhayani, BNP Paribas Wealth Management's chief investment officer for Asia.
Bhayani stated that future demand would depend on external factors such as interest rates, the US dollar, and global yields. He noted that a rate cut had already been priced in by the market, but also expressed caution about continued volatility due to the global macro situation.
