Ho Chi Minh City Pursues National Energy Industry Center Project

Ho Chi Minh City is moving forward with plans to develop its National Energy Industry Center Project. The project aims to create a modern, green energy center that can compete regionally and internationally.

The city's Department of Industry and Trade organized a seminar on July 31st to gather feedback from experts, scientists, representatives from research institutes, universities, associations, and businesses.

Deputy Director Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc emphasized the importance of ensuring energy security for sustainable development and achieving the city's double-digit economic growth target. The project is built on three foundations: Ho Chi Minh City's advantages in deep-water seaports, oil and gas industry, LNG, and petrochemical refining; increasing energy demand to meet growth targets; and integrating scattered projects into a value chain.

Experts suggested positioning the National Energy Industry Center as an integrated development model, connecting gas, LNG, petrochemicals, renewable energy, seaports, logistics, and supporting industries. They also recommended clarifying the scope, value chain, and development orientation; and defining the relationship between the project and national planning.
