Malaysia Sees Stable Fuel Supplies Until September Amid Energy Crisis
The Malaysian government has assured that fuel supplies will remain stable until September amid an ongoing energy crisis. According to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Petronas' gas stations nationwide cover about 50% of the country's domestic fuel needs through its publicly listed subsidiary Petronas Dagangan Bhd.
The Crisis Management Task Force (CMT) under the National Economic Action Council (NEAC) monitors the situation and ensures supply security in the coming months, controlling prices and preventing smuggling and illegal activities. The government is also seeking crude oil supplies from exporters other than West Asia, such as West Africa and the Americas.
Azalina reported that Malaysia's estimated crude oil reserves stand at 3.89 billion barrels of oil equivalent, while total natural gas reserves are approximately 13.19 billion barrels of oil equivalent as of January 1, 2026. Based on these reserves, each reserve is expected to last over 20 years at the current production rate.
