Hormuz Crisis Spurs LNG Market Diversification
The Strait of Hormuz crisis has severely impacted the global LNG market, affecting nearly 20% of global supply. This has led to buyers looking for alternative sources of supply that are not dependent on this chokepoint.
Europe and Asia are struggling with LNG prices soaring to highs last seen in 2022 due to constrained exports from Qatar and the UAE. As a result, buyers are diversifying their sources of supply, looking at options from Canada, Mozambique, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Argentina.
The crisis has also led to a re-evaluation of energy security priorities among importers, with a focus on diversification beyond just fuel types. This includes exploring alternative delivery entry points, shipping access, technologies, and contract and price structures.
