Hormuz Crisis Threatens to Delay QatarEnergy's Expansion Projects
QatarEnergy's expansion projects may be delayed due to the crisis over the Strait of Hormuz, according to CEO Saad al-Kaabi. The critical equipment needed for the projects cannot reach Qatar, causing production issues. QatarEnergy is currently producing only a 'very minute' volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG), despite having several projects underway.
The North Field East (NFE) expansion, which includes a few LNG trains set to start up in 2027, may be impacted by the crisis. The North Field South (NFS) expansion, due to begin production in 2028, is also at risk. Kaabi made these comments during the Qatar Economic Forum in New York.
