Hormuz Oil Flows Soar Amid Middle East Tensions

The ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict has significant implications for global energy markets, particularly in light of recent statements from US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. According to Wright, oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz are currently averaging nearly 9 million barrels per day, a testament to efforts by the US military and Gulf allies to maintain the waterway's operation.

This figure is substantial, given that it underlines the importance of the strait to international energy markets. Moreover, Wright noted that another 5-7 million barrels per day are being transported out of the region through expanded pipelines and upgraded export facilities, which together could account for approximately 15 million barrels per day in regional oil flows.

The reported increase in oil exports from the Gulf region suggests that producers and their partners are attempting to maintain capacity despite heightened military risks around major shipping routes. This is evident in the fact that more than 20 million barrels of oil left the region on Sunday alone, which would be substantially higher than the pre-conflict average.
