Republican congressional candidate Chris McGowan is outlining his positions on key issues in Iowa's Fourth Congressional District, including tariffs, agriculture, cancer research, and education. As the November election approaches, McGowan will face Democrat Dave Dawson for the seat currently held by Randy Feenstra (R-Hull).

McGowan supports free and fair trade but acknowledged that tariffs have created difficulties for farmers and value-added agricultural businesses. He suggested Congress examine whether new tariffs could apply only to future agreements rather than changing previously negotiated deals.

In his top priority for northwest Iowa agriculture, McGowan pointed to nationwide, year-round access to E15, which has passed the House but is awaiting Senate action. Expanding ethanol demand would provide another domestic market for Iowa corn at a time when farmers are dealing with low commodity prices and increased international competition.
