Hormuz Oil Shipments Surge Amid Ongoing Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz oil shipments have reached their highest level in six months, according to U.S. Central Command. The increase in commercial traffic through the strategic waterway comes as American forces and regional partners work to boost shipping volumes amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran.
Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, said that more than 1 billion barrels of crude had moved through the Strait of Hormuz during the past several months. U.S. forces have provided coordinated protection for over 2,000 commercial vessel transits, with primary shipping lanes cleared of mines and open to commercial traffic.
Despite this development, Iran's oil exports remain severely restricted, with Cooper attributing the halt to what he described as an American blockade. The characterization represents the U.S. military's description of its operations.
