Hormuz Oil Shipments Surge to Six-Month High Amid Global Supply Crunch
Oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have reached their highest level in six months, according to US Central Command head Admiral Brad Cooper. The strait's primary transit lanes are clear of mines, and Persian Gulf allies have shipped over 1 billion barrels of crude oil through it 'in the last couple months.'
Cooper's comments come as the global squeeze on oil and petroleum products continues, spurred in part by drone attacks linked to the Iran war that halted a Saudi Arabian pipeline bypassing the strait.
The US has been working with Persian Gulf allies, insurers, and shipping companies to increase the flow through the strait. 'The effort is paying off,' Cooper said, citing the increased volume of crude oil, cargo, and liquid natural gas over the past two weeks as evidence.
