Hormuz Reopening Paves Way for QatarEnergy's Gas Operations to Resume
QatarEnergy's CEO Saad al-Kaabi said that normal gas operations can resume within weeks of the Strait of Hormuz reopening. The disruption has caused a significant delay in some expansion projects, as deliveries of critical equipment have been blocked.
QatarEnergy is currently producing only a 'very minute' volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to Kaabi's statement at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York. Several LNG trains under the North Field East expansion are scheduled to begin operating in 2027, with production from the North Field South expansion expected to start in 2028.
The delay is mainly due to the disruption of deliveries, which have affected the company's ability to complete its expansion projects on schedule. However, Kaabi expressed confidence that normal operations can resume once the Strait of Hormuz reopens.
