Hormuz Reopening Talks Stall, Oil Prices Soar
Oil prices surged more than 4.5% on Thursday as negotiations over a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz stalled, with Iran presenting conditions for restoring access to the strategic waterway.
The price hike saw West Texas Intermediate crude reach $79.72 a barrel and Brent crude climb to $85.16 a barrel, according to reports from BlockBeats on August 10.
Iran's demands for fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz include lifting U.S. sanctions on Iran, unfreezing Iranian assets, and withdrawing U.S. naval and air forces from around Iran, among other conditions.
The stalemate in negotiations has sparked concerns over potential oil supply disruptions, with Yemen's Houthi rebels claiming a drone attack on Saudi Aramco refining facilities, further fueling these concerns.
