Hormuz Reopening to Trigger Oil Flood Within Weeks
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will be an extraordinary event when it happens, as about 10,000 oil wells and roughly 15% of the world's production come back online.
According to Javier Blas, a well-informed source in the energy industry, the oil market is divided on how long this process will take. Some experts believe it could be done in days or weeks, while others estimate it may take six to eight months, or even a year.
However, Blas thinks otherwise: 'When it happens, it would start as a trickle, but very quickly, in just a handful of weeks, if not days, transform into an oil flood.'
The reason for this optimism is that the infrastructure needed to restart production has emerged from the war largely unscathed. The wells, gas-and-oil processing centers, pipelines, storage tanks, and ports have been well-maintained during the conflict.
