Hormuz Shipping Crashes as US-Israel-Iran Conflict Intensifies
The Strait of Hormuz has seen an extraordinary slowdown in commercial shipping as the US-Israel-Iran conflict continues to raise security risks across the Gulf. According to preliminary Kpler shipping data, only four commodity vessels crossed the strategic waterway on Tuesday, down from seven the day earlier and far below the recent 10-day average of 18.
The sharp decline comes as attacks around the region intensify, oil prices rise, and Iran rejects renewed negotiations with Washington unless its conditions are met. The Strait of Hormuz normally carries a major share of global oil and LNG supplies, making the latest fall in traffic a significant concern for energy markets and international trade.
The available tracking data may not capture every vessel. Some ships could be sailing with their automatic identification system, or AIS, transponders switched off.
