Hormuz Strait Reopening Uncertainty Sends Oil Prices into Flux
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil supplies, remains in flux as negotiations to reopen it continue. The price of Brent crude rose nearly 4% on Thursday, but slipped 0.3% by early Friday morning to $82.26 per barrel.
Iran has said it is close to a deal with Oman for reopening the strait, which would be a significant development in securing stable oil supplies. However, any agreement may require a compromise from both sides, as Iran insists on some measure of control over the waterway.
The conflict has had many starts and stops over the past five months, and it remains unclear whether a deal will be reached soon. The Trump administration has ruled out Iran charging fees to ships, but Iran is insisting on some level of control.
