Hormuz Strait Tensions Fuel Oil Price Surge
Oil prices have risen following Iran's announcement that it has stopped two vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about global energy supplies.
The Strait is a critical waterway for oil transportation, and Iranian military claims state they halted four more tankers after intervening. However, Reuters notes these assertions could not be independently verified.
Despite Tehran's reports, two large oil tankers from the Gulf of Mexico successfully navigated the strait, according to data from Kpler, a company monitoring maritime traffic. The system does not account for ships with transponders turned off.
Oil prices have surged over 1% in response to these developments, and experts predict further increases in oil prices by year-end, with Brent crude futures expected to gain approximately 23% in July.
