Crude oil prices took a hit on Wednesday after news emerged that Iran and Oman were discussing the creation of a temporary navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. This development has eased concerns over disruptions to energy supplies from the Middle East, leading to a decline in global crude oil prices.

The Brent crude oil futures fell 2.6% to $86.28 per barrel, hitting their lowest level since August 13. US WTI crude oil declined 2.5% to around $80.29 per barrel, its lowest since August 10.

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical issue for the global energy market, with only five commodity vessels transiting the strait on Tuesday compared to a 10-day average of 15. The market is also reacting to signs of a possible easing in geopolitical tensions, with Pakistan and Iran reporting 'significant progress' in discussions on the conflict.

Crude oil prices were further pressured by rising US inventories, which increased by about 4.2 million barrels in the week ended August 21, compared to analysts' expectations for an increase of just 0.6 million barrels.
