Crude oil prices declined for the fourth consecutive day due to reports of new talks between Qatar and Iran aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The latest developments come after a tanker was reportedly struck in the waterway, but oil traders remain optimistic despite ongoing tensions.

The price of Brent crude stood at $87.46 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate traded at $81.83 per barrel. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani will visit Tehran to discuss the possibility of reopening the strait.

The talks are expected to focus on freedom of navigation in the chokepoint and the possibility of its reopening, as well as ways to 'de-escalate tensions and create the conditions conducive to dialogue.' However, ING commodity analysts have warned that any agreement between Iran and Oman on joint management of the strait would not automatically mean a reopening.

Analysts also pointed out that the US would need to lift its blockade on Iranian ports and ease sanctions before seeing any move towards normalization in oil flows through the key chokepoint.
