Hormuz Tanker Attacks Escalate Tensions as Saudi Aramco Faces New Security Pressure
A series of attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz has escalated tensions in the region, with two vessels struck in the past four days.
The latest incident involved the Kuwait-flagged Kazimah III, which was hit by an unknown projectile while transiting the strait on Thursday. The crew was reported safe, but the extent of the damage and any potential environmental impact remained unknown.
This is the second VLCC operated by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company to be attacked in Hormuz this month, following a strike on September 28 that resulted in a fire being extinguished without causing major damage or pollution. The attacks come as vessel traffic through the strait has begun to recover from several days of decreased activity.
A separate projectile attack at Saudi Arabia's Yanbu port briefly disrupted loading operations on Thursday, sparking a fire and prompting authorities to suspend loading with one tanker before resuming. There was no public confirmation of who was responsible for the attack or what type of projectile was used.
