Houthi Attacks Disrupt Saudi Energy Facilities Amid Regional Tensions
The Houthi militant group in Yemen launched a series of attacks against Saudi energy facilities on Tuesday, September 8. The strikes targeted locations in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, causing fires to erupt at the sites and injuring 73 people, including women and children.
The Saudi energy ministry reported that operations at some of its energy facilities were halted due to the attacks, which also damaged several Aramco facilities. The Houthi military spokesperson announced a broad offensive against Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure, using ballistic missiles and drones to target key sites.
Brent crude futures rose $1 to $98 a barrel following the incident, while U.S. crude futures increased by over $2 to $93.65 a barrel. The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen vowed to respond firmly to the attacks, describing them as a 'dangerous escalation'. The Houthi group has been launching attacks against Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July.
