Houthi Attacks on Saudi Aramco Spark Oil Price Surge
Oil prices climbed on Monday following reports of attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The Iran-backed group claimed responsibility for launching ballistic missiles and drones at sites in Riyadh and the Khurais area, sparking concerns over potential disruptions to oil production in the region.
Brent crude futures rose by 81 cents, or 0.79%, reaching $103.06 per barrel by 2202 GMT. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate crude increased by 46 cents, or 0.50%, to $91.57 per barrel. The market reaction underscores the sensitivity of oil prices to geopolitical risks, particularly in a key production hub like Saudi Arabia.
The attacks highlighted the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and their potential impact on global energy supplies. Saudi Aramco, the largest oil exporter in the region, remains a critical player in the global oil market, making any threats to its operations significant for investors and consumers alike.
