Houthi Attacks Spark Shipping Chaos at Vital Red Sea Waterway
A sharp decline in shipping traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has been reported after Houthi attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure. According to Kpler data, only 11 commodity vessels passed through the strategic waterway on Sunday, including seven oil tankers.
The Houthis have threatened to block Saudi-linked shipping and declared a maritime blockade targeting Saudi exports in retaliation for what they describe as a Saudi blockade of Yemen and recent Saudi military action.
One of the affected vessels was carrying 4 million barrels of Saudi crude for China, while another transported around 750,000 barrels of Saudi crude bound for Pakistan.
