Houthi Claims of Riyadh Oil Attack 'Misleading', Saudi Coalition Says
Fighting between Yemen's government and Houthi rebels has escalated, with the Houthis claiming to have attacked an oil facility near Riyadh. However, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition says these claims are 'misleading'.
The conflict reignited in July, with the Houthis launching numerous attacks on Saudi territory. The Houthis control most of northwest Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, while the government is based in Aden and controls much of the country's south and east.
The Houthis have struck targets inside Saudi Arabia, including an oil facility in Yanbu last month, and announced a naval blockade on Saudi ships in the Red Sea. The coalition's spokesperson, General Turki al-Maliki, says the Houthis are 'chasing imaginary victories' and struggling to hold ground in Taiz.
