Houthi Conflict Displaces Over 125,000 in Yemen, Threatens Global Fuel Prices
Yemen is caught in the midst of a severe humanitarian crisis as Houthi rebels advance down the Red Sea coast, threatening Saudi oil exports and global fuel prices.
Eshraq Abdel Gelil and her husband, Mohamed Thabet, fled their home with only what they could carry, including Abdel Gelil's four-month pregnancy. They are among over 125,000 people who have been displaced by the conflict.
The Houthi offensive has pushed up global fuel prices and rattled markets, but for Yemenis caught in the crossfire, the cost is far greater. Many have fled their homes with little warning, carrying only what they could grab.
UNICEF reports that over 57,000 children are among the displaced, and aid groups say there's an urgent need for food, maternal and newborn healthcare, hygiene supplies, and mental health support.
