Houthi Drone Attacks Target Saudi Oil Facilities Amid Escalating Tensions
The Houthi movement in Yemen claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities, citing retaliation for alleged Saudi drone intrusions into Yemeni airspace. In a statement posted on X, Yahya Sarea, Houthi military spokesman, said the group struck multiple sensitive sites and facilities along the crude oil transport corridor using unmanned aerial vehicles.
The incident follows a rise in tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, which began when the Houthis enacted a maritime restriction on shipping linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. The Houthis justified this measure as a response to what they characterized as a blockade of territories under their control.
Singapore has denounced the recent assaults on Saudi Arabia, including those hitting energy infrastructure and commercial ships in the Red Sea. A representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is essential for navigational rights and freedoms to be honored and maintained in line with international law.
