Houthi Militia Ramps Up Attacks on Saudi Arabia, Threatening Vision 2030
Recently, students in Saudi Arabia were told to stay at home and attend classes online due to Houthi attacks from neighboring Yemen. However, just a day later, they were given the all-clear and allowed to return to school in person.
The conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi militia in Yemen has become part of everyday life in Saudi Arabia, with the Houthis ramping up attacks since July and firing many missiles and drones over the border.
In recent weeks, the Houthi militia has pushed further into Yemen, taking control of the Yemeni coast and several islands in the Red Sea. This means they can oversee maritime traffic in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategic waterway connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.
The renewed Houthi attacks pose a significant threat to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 project, which aims to reduce the kingdom's dependence on oil revenues. To achieve this goal, stability is crucial, but the current situation is moving in the opposite direction.
