The Houthi rebels in Yemen have reportedly blocked the passage of eight Saudi-owned oil tankers through the Bab el Mandeb strait, as part of their naval blockade strategy against Saudi Arabia.

The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Sari, stated on social media that the tankers were forced to change course towards Al Raya al Salé, aligning with the rebels' policy of 'blockade for blockade.'

Saudi Arabia has responded by announcing a plan to establish a military coalition for maritime defense, backed by 13 countries including Turkey and Egypt. The aim is to strengthen protection of international maritime routes and address threats to navigation in key waterways.
