The Houthi rebels in Yemen have made significant gains in their fight against Saudi Arabia and its allies, capturing a strategic island near the Red Sea's Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The capture of Mayun Island, also known as Perim, has opened a new front in the Iran-Saudi war, which could boost Iran's strategy to drive up global oil prices by targeting Saudi Arabia's oil exports through one of the world's key shipping lanes.

Saudi Arabia responded with airstrikes on Mokha airport, near the captured island, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.
