Houthi Rebels Escalate Conflict in Yemen, Targeting Oil Infrastructure
The conflict in Yemen between Saudi-backed government forces and Houthi rebels has escalated, with renewed fighting since July. The Houthis have targeted oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, driving oil prices above $100 per barrel.
Last week, the Houthis seized control of Yemen's Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which has become crucial as tensions rise in the region. The group declared a maritime blockade on Riyadh in July, targeting its ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthi rebels claimed to have launched 'dozens of ballistic missiles and drones' against the King Khalid airbase in southern Saudi Arabia, but the coalition confirmed only missile and drone attacks on Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif. The attack wounded 13 civilians.
