Houthi Rebels Strike Riyadh, Target Aramco Facility in Escalating Campaign
Houthi rebels claimed to have launched missile and drone attacks on 'sensitive' sites in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital, on Saturday. The strikes appear to be in response to an attack in Yemen's capital Sanaa.
The group said it had also targeted an Aramco facility in the Red Sea city of Yanbu, a key oil export hub. Reuters journalists reported seeing explosions and a large plume of smoke near Riyadh's main airport, with flames visible behind fuel tanks at one point.
Saudi civil defence issued alerts overnight warning of potential danger from aerial attacks, but later issued an all-clear on Saturday morning. The Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Houthis said its air defences had destroyed a missile fired towards Riyadh early that day.
