Houthi Rebels Target Riyadh With Ballistic Missile
Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Yemen's Houthi rebels attempted to attack its capital, Riyadh, with a ballistic missile on September 19, 2026. The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis stated that the attempt was intercepted, and there were no reports of casualties or damage.
The incident marks the first time a ballistic missile has targeted Riyadh since the escalation in fighting with the Tehran-backed rebels. The Houthi military spokesperson claimed they attacked with cruise and ballistic missiles as well as drones, targeting 'sensitive sites' in Riyadh and facilities of Saudi oil giant Aramco in Yanbu.
The conflict near another important global shipping corridor has brought new pressures for markets. Regional officials have told the Associated Press that Saudi Arabia is running low on missile interceptors and has asked France, Britain, Pakistan, and Egypt for air defence support.
