Houthi Rebels Target Saudi Capital with Ballistic Missile
Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Yemen's Houthi rebels attempted to attack its capital, Riyadh, with a ballistic missile. The attack was intercepted by the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis.
The attempt on Riyadh is significant as it marks the first time the city has been targeted since the escalation in fighting between the two sides.
The Houthi rebels claimed they had attacked 'sensitive sites' in Riyadh and facilities of Saudi oil giant Aramco in Yanbu, but provided no evidence to support their claims. Aramco did not respond to a request for comment.
The growing conflict near the Red Sea has brought new pressures on markets, as the region is an important global shipping corridor.
