Houthi-Saudi Conflict Escalates, Disrupting Global Oil Supplies
The ongoing conflict between Iran-backed Houthi fighters and Saudi-backed forces in Yemen has led to a significant escalation of violence, causing widespread displacement and disruption to global oil supplies. The fighting has seen over 100,000 Yemenis displaced, mostly within the country.
Houthi-controlled television reported fresh Saudi air strikes on Thursday in Hajjah province near the Saudi border, as well as the vicinity of Taiz further inland. The Houthis have seized Yemen's entire Red Sea coast since last week and say the Saudi Air Force has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in recent days.
On Wednesday, the Houthis claimed to have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet, releasing video footage of the charred wreckage at the crash site. In response, Trump expressed hope that the war would soon come to an end and stated that Iranians 'want to make a deal'.
