The Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for striking a Saudi tanker in the Red Sea, near the major port of Yanbu. This incident is part of their ongoing embargo on oil shipments in the region.

The attack led to a moderate increase in Brent crude prices, with the international benchmark climbing less than 1% to above $80 a barrel by 9:31 a.m. ET on Wednesday. In contrast, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) declined 0.24%, hovering below $76.

The focus is now shifting towards the ongoing talks between the U.S. and Iran, with President Donald Trump stating that 'a lot of progress has been made' in discussions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump expressed optimism about a potential deal, saying the key waterway would be open 'very soon.' However, he also warned that if Iran backs out, they will face severe consequences.

The proposed agreement between Oman and Iran aims to establish freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, with all inbound traffic going through Iranian waters. Outbound traffic would go through Omani waters in coordination with Tehran. The deal sets a 60-day period for clearing mines in the median lane, after which both inbound and outbound traffic will use the cleared waterway.
